It's week two of the spring semester and already so much has happened. I started my internship, I started a new position in my pre-professional communications fraternity, and I turned 21. So lots of good things overall. After a little shuffling of my class schedule, I'm finally settling in and beginning to enjoy my classes after the first week of going over the syllabus for each class. This semester already seems like it's going to be fun and full of opportunities, despite the fact that I'm even busier than ever.
My internship is already a great learning opportunity for me. I am a PR/Media Intern for a law firm in Midtown, where I assist with running the social media and PR inbox for the firm as well as create content to post on their website and YouTube channel. There are so many opportunities for creativity in this role that I never would have thought of before learning about this role, and it's really been eye-opening for me. I'm already considering what futures I could have if I continued to work in positions similar to this after school. That being said, I do still love television and marketing, so that does not mean I'm going to be limiting myself to PR/media roles. I still want to intern in live television and have already begun the search for summer internships, but if the opportunity arose to have another media internship, then I would definitely consider it.
The HEAT Network is starting it's slow beginning that will almost immediately be followed by an explosion of activity as all five of our shows start their live productions. Our General Interest Meeting is later this week, along with our second ever Production Day, which was started last semester by our current General Manager. In just a month we will be having our elections for our e-board for the 2020-2021 school year, so I am in the process of looking for someone to take over as the Associate General Manager when I (hopefully) step up as General Manager.
